CHVRCHES at Lincoln Hall on 06.11.2013
CHVRCHES and opening act Still Corners played a second sold-out show at Lincoln Hall on Tuesday night (6/11). Still Corners began at 8PM, as billed, and played on a limited stage setup to the few attendees who had arrived. Their blend of electro dream pop balanced nicely with the growing crowd and visuals projected behind them.
By the time CHVRCHES hit the stage Lincoln Hall was overflowing. As adorable singer Lauren Mayberry noted, they wrapped their first album in Chicago one day before their two-night run at Lincoln Hall. The crowd was treated to mostly new songs from the upcoming album, as well as “Recover” and “Now is Not The Time” from the EP. Mayberry was softly confident on stage, handling drunken yells to play the Game of Thrones theme song and other requests with ease. As the band finished their set with hit “The Mother We Share,” walked off stage, and the Lincoln Hall staff began to turn the house lights and music back on, no one wanted to leave and the whole crowd stayed put. In response the band quickly came running back on stage for one more: a bouncy electrosynth cover of Prince’s “I Would Die 4 U.”
