Eels // Chelsea Wolfe at the Vic Theatre on 05.24.2014
Eels brought their North American tour with Chelsea Wolfe through Chicago for a packed show at the Vic Theatre on Saturday night (5/24). Mark Oliver Everett and co. tore through tunes from the new Eels LP, The Cautionary Tales Of Mark Oliver Everett, and also dove into their back catalog for “Fresh Feeling,” “I Like Birds,” and other tunes. Opener Chelsea Wolfe (who we recently caught with QOTSA) kicked off the night in her acoustic formation with songs from 2012’s Unknown Rooms, and pictures of both acts are in this post.
One night later at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, MN, reclusive former Journey frontman Steve Perry took the stage for the first time in 19-years during Eels’ set. Everett told Stereogum that it was their good friend Perry’s frequent appearances at tour rehearsals that led to his return. Perry did Eels’ “It’s A Motherfucker,” plus Journey’s “Open Arms” and “Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’.” It’s up in the air whether Perry will make a complete return to music and the stage.
More pictures from the Vic lie after the jump…
