Weedeater at Ultra Lounge (more by Jimmy Farabi)

Last week we hit you with a preview of some of the heavy stuff you can expect to see in Chicago in the rest of June, which at this point still includes bands like Dead Kennedys, Cokegoat, All out War, Septicflesh, and more (but note: Black Cobra was postponed). Now here's a similar look at the non-temperature-related ways in which Chicago residents will be brutalized in July.

Beat Kitchen will hold back-to-back Finnish metal showcases on July 5 and 6. The first of these will feature Finnish black metal throwbacks Behexen, with support from gasmask-toting locals Kommandant. Night two will see another Finnish black metal band, Sargeist, with an even more loaded (and notably doomy) supporting cast featuring Detroit doom metal outfit Acid Witch and Jex Thoth, along with black metallers Empyreus. The two finnish bands are on tour together and both shows ought to be worth catching (tickets are here and here).

As we've mentioned, local legends Shellac will play two shows at Lincoln Hall on July 6 and 7. Tickets to see Steve Albini and company are sold out for the second night, but you can still get them for the show on the 6th here.

If you're interested in hearing songs about both weed and doughnuts (and seeing one of the best live bands around), July 9, Reggies will play host to Louisiana stoner legends Weedeater with Vukari and Dirt Church (tickets).

That same evening, Signature Riff and Metal Threat will be presenting a showcase at Cobra Lounge, featuring miserable local doom beasts Lord Mantis closing out their July tour by supporting the French band Hell Militia. Other bands on the bill include Undergang, Trepanation and Astraes Pestis. Tickets are on sale now.

The San Francisco analogue avengers in Slough Feg will bring their throwback tendencies to Reggies on July 12, where they'll headline a stacked lineup at the 8th annual Alehorn of Power (doesn't get much more brütal than that, folks). Valkyrie (featuring Pete Adams of Baroness), Gypsyhawk, Bible of the Devil, and more will be featured. Don't miss out on this one (tickets).

As has been discussed, Thou and The Body will play two collaborative shows on July 17 with support from Hell and Ash Borer. The first of these shows will be at Club Rectum, tickets for which are at the door. The late show is at Empty Bottle, and tickets for that can still be found here.

The following night (July 18), you'll have the choice of uplift or obliteration. Blackened screamo/shoegaze dreamers Deafheaven will play an official Pitchfork aftershow with Perfect Pussy at Bottom Lounge. Meanwhile, a little further south, Reggies will play host to a local death metal show with Cardiac Arrest, Dr. Shrinker, Disinter, Sons of Famine and Deathcult. Tickets are here and here, respectively.

On July 25, Cobra Lounge will host another particularly brutal show, with Denver death metal outfit Primitive Man joining Brooklyn blackened thrash heavyweights Mutilation Rites and Copenhagen black metal outfit Hexis. Hexer and Lychgate fill out the lineup, tickets for which can be found here.

Closing out the brutal month will be a show of fitting brutality, pairing two of the brightest young things on the underground metal circuit. Brooklyn crust monsters Mortals will play a set at Cobra Lounge with Immortal Bird, Rae Amitay's (Thrawsunblat) new and awesome black/death/grind project. The final ticket link is here.

That about does it for next month. Keep your eyes peeled for an August preview, as well as for the heavy bands making appearances at West Fest and Pitchfork.
