Julianna Barwick streaming ‘Nepenthe,’ opening for Sigur Ros at the Auditorium Theatre

As discussed, Julianna Barwick's new one, titled Nepenthe, is slated to arrive on August 20 via Dead Oceans. You can now stream the album in its entirety via NPR ahead of its release. It's beautifully ethereal stuff and was recorded with Alex Somers (Jónsi & Alex, Parachutes), a teenage female choir, and members of Amiina and Múm in Reykjavík, Iceland. Barwick also recently shared a music video for the LP track "One Half," which you can check out at the bottom of this post.
Barwick was originally scheduled to tour North America this fall in support of Nepenthe. Many of those dates have now been canceled, including a performance at Constellation on September 21, but for good reason: She'll now act as main support for Sigur Ros on THEIR North American tour. Aside from making total sense via the Alex Somers connection, what a pairing. Her opening duties include a performance at the Auditorium Theatre on September 30. Advance tickets for the Chicago show are still available.
