Ty Segall's band Fuzz, who already made at least one Best of 2015 list, toured their way to Thalia Hall in Chicago for a show last night (11/20). Pictures are in this post.

We also caught the band who aretouring in support of their 2nd album, at Fun Fun Fun Fest earlier in the month. Austin Chronicle reviewed that show:Here, bandleader Ty Segall, who clocks countless musical side projects including collaborations with fellow FFF performer Mikal Cronin, trades his guitar for the drum kit. A known jokester, hijinks commenced even before the music when Segall sustained the Halloween spirit by wearing a creepy baby mask.

"Hi, mommy! Hi, daddy - hee hee," he hissed from behind the eerie disguise.

"Rat Race," lead-off single from the Californians' second LP II, kicked off the seven-song bombast. Upon wrapping the hard-rocking opener, bassist Chad Ubovich busted a bass string.

"Does anyone have a bass?" Segall pleaded. "Pretty please?"

The timekeeper cracked jokes to fill dead air as his bandmate hustled to swap out strings.

"What's green and hops from bed to bed? A prosti-toad."

Forgoing his usual axe, Segall opted to bash the hell out of a drum set instead. In the same way that he throws his entire body into his guitar playing, he hits the kit with the manic intensity of Keith Moon. It's a welcome energy, as II's studio drums lacked some kick due to a relatively timid production job. Instead of being overpowered by Moothart's Sturm und Drang guitar and Ubovich's fuzzed-up bass, the group locked into each other in the classic power trio formation. Not even the warmest analog tape could fully capture their Blue Cheer-cum-MC5 intensity.
