Red Bull Sound Select's 30 Days in Chicago continued for its eighth night with Syd at Metro on Wednesday (11/8), along with sets from Bailey Wiley and Charlotte Day Wilson. Chicago Tribune called Syd's set "vulnerable" and "honest" in their recap:
Syd (of The Internet) made her appearance close to 11 p.m., casually—but deliberately—working her way on stage from left to right and back again, crouching down to interact with an audience so clearly enamored with her whispery vocals.
“I didn’t expect to make it this far as an artist,” she said. “How many entrepreneurs in here? Or anybody that’s ever turned nothing into something?”
Everything about her performance felt genuine—as she sang, she wore an expression that mirrored her words about expectations.
“In real life I’m really insecure, just like some of y’all. I’m trying not to let my insecurities hold me back anymore. I’m working on loving myself more.”
Syd closed the show with a mini medley, singing a stripped-down version of Aaliyah’s “Are You That Somebody” before smoothly transitioning to “Know,” a song—airy and influenced by the late artist—from her first solo album, “Fin.”
