On Monday night (5/21), The Beach Boys played their first of two Chicago Theatre shows on their 50th anniversary tour. This is the group's first full run with Brian Wilson along for the ride in decades. Like in NYC, they kicked things off with the very appropriate "Do It Again" off 1969's 20/20, before diving into some of their early '60s material including "Catch a Wave," "Hawaii," "Don't Back Down," "Surfin' Safari," and others.

After a brief intermission, the band began a second set with "Add Some Music to Your Day" off 1970's Sunflower, followed by a cover of The Mamas & the Papas' "California Dreamin'." Next came "Sloop John B," "Wouldn't It Be Nice," and "I Just Wasn't Made for These Times" from 1966's Pet Sounds, which they revisited later in the set to perform "God Only Knows." Smiley Smile was represented with "Heroes and Villains" and "Good Vibrations," as was 1965's Summer Days with the singles "California Girls" and "Help Me, Rhonda." Their new single "That's Why God Made the Radio," off their forthcoming album of the same name, made its way into the second set, as did covers of Chuck Berry's "Rock and Roll Music" and Bobby Freeman's "Do You Wanna Dance?" The band returned for an encore, which included "Kokomo," "Barbara Ann," and "Fun Fun Fun."
