Alex Chilton @ Brooklyn Masonic Temple in 2009 w/ Big Star (more by Lori Baily)

As they've done in previous years, the Empty Bottle will celebrate the birthday of the late Box Tops/Big Star frontman Alex Chilton, who passed away from a heart attack in 2010.

On Wednesday night (12/28, Chilton's would-be 60th Birthday), the Bottle will host:

An evening of music that celebrates the life and work of dearly departed and beloved songwriter and former BIG STAR front man ALEX CHILTON. After recording smash hit "The Letter" with the BOX TOPS at just 16, his roll with the influential Memphis power-pop group BIG STAR precipitated CHILTON's towering stature in American pop.

Performers include: Adam Fitz, Certain Stars, For Pilots, Grand Prixx, Injured Parties, Jen Saint Stjärna, Khalid Hanifi, Love & Radiation, Michael Heaton, Phil Angotti, Scott Niekelski, Urban Twang, and Wells-next-the-Sea.

Tickets are $8 at the door and all proceeds go to benefit The National Association of Free Clinics.

Alex Chilton, RIP.
