No need to wait for the World Music Festival for some "world music." Vieux Farka Touré, son of the late Ali Farka Touré is here tonight (9/7) all the way from Mali (or wherever he lives now) to play a headlining show at SPACE. Tortoise's Jeff Parker will open, and tickets are still available.

You can also catch Touré Thursday (9/8) at the Krannert Center at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as part of the opening night celebration of the Ellnora Guitar Festival with Toshi Reagon and BIGlovely, Daniel Lanois' Black Dub, and Russ Barenberg Trio. Other artists playing the multiple day fest include Marc Ribot, Richard Thompson, Calexico, Noveller, Chris Thile, Bill Frisell, Lee Ranaldo, My Brightest Diamond, and Taj Mahal. Full schedule HERE. All Vieux dates are listed below.

Touré's most recent album The Secret came out on May 24th, and features production from Eric Krasno (of Soulive) and guest spots from Derek Trucks and John Scofield, plus the last recorded collaboration with his father. Check out the music video for his track "All the Same" featuring Dave Matthews below.
